Exposure to benzene at different work places in Sweden.

چکیده
is produced or handled has been investigated. The high benzene content (max 5 %, v/v) in Swedish petrol means that many workers are exposed to benzene vapours during their working day. The measurements showed that the exposure of most workers was below the Swedish occupational standard value (8 h TWA, 16 mg m). Short-time sampling showed the occurrence of exposures to high concentrations above the occupational standard value for 15 min (32 mg m) among workers at refineries and marketing terminals. Many workers are exposed to benzene via exhaust gases. The concentrations are below the occupational standard value but much elevated compared with the background concentrations of benzene. Precautions to improve the working environment have been suggested.

Background and objective: Benzene is one of the main pollutants in air and one of the most extensive chemical compound used in both natural and industrial processes. Benzene exposure leads to the most dangerous adverse health effects, particularly blood cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the gas station workers’ exposure to benzene by measuring benzene in breathing air and urinary tr...

متن کاملThe effect of respiratory exposure to benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene on the spirometric indices among the petroleum products loading workers
Abstract Background and Aim: Benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene (BTEX) are the most important aromatic compounds in petroleum products. BTEX compounds due to their high vapor pressure, easily change to gas form and mixed with ambient air. Petroleum products loading workers are exposed to these compounds by the inhalation of BTEX compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ef...

Methods: Among 346 collected samples, benzene was identified in all cases (100%) and epichlorohydrin in 156 samples (45%). A significant difference was found in the mean of exposure to benzene and epichlorohydrin in various workshops (Pvalue <0.05). Occupational exposure to benzene in machiner with 1.68 ppm and patrol officers with 0.018 ppm were the highest and lowest values, respectively...
